Continental Currency 2 Dollars Feb, 17, 1776, Signed J Smith* (supposedly the same James Smith who signed the declaration) – James Smith was born in Ireland around 1719, was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar at the age of 26, and practiced law until 1774 when he entered the political arena after writing his “Essay on the Constitutional Power of Great Britain over the Colonies in America.” He was appointed as a Pennsylvania’s representative to the Continental Congress, and later signed the Declaration of Independence.
