Description

CONFEDERATE (BOND) DEPOSIT FORM No. 652 (20 for $10, 000) for FUNDS REDEMPTION. LISTED & SHOWN in DOUGLAS BALL’S COMPREHENSIVE CATALOG and HISTORY of CONFEDERATE BONDS (PAGES 238-9).DOUG EXPLAINED to me (in his WONDERFULLY PATIENT MANNER – RIP) HOW these were to be USED and the FACT that MOST of these REDEMPTION ISSUES were PUSHED OVER to JUDAH P. BENJAMIN (WHO HAD PREVIOUSLY been the CONFEDERATE ATTY GENERAL, then SECRETARY of WAR & LATER, SECRETARY of STATE and the ONLY CONFEDERATE STATESMAN NOT to SURRENDER or BE CAPTURED – INSTEAD he went to ENGLAND, VIA the GAMBLE MANSION here in FLORIDAand BECAME a BARRISTER/LAWYER RISING to the TOP of his PROFESSION). This REDEMPTION DOCUMENT was PROBABLY INITIATED WHILE BENJAMIN was ALIVE, BUT SUBMITTED a YEAR AFTER HIS PASSING in 1884 to an ENGLISH INSTITUTION (the NATIONAL SAFE DEPOSIT COMPANY, LTD in LONDON).NO MONEY was EVER COLLECTED (AFTER ALL, THE US GOV’T was VIRTUALLY BANKRUPT from the WAR ANYWAY – WHY SHOULD they PAY the DEBTS of the LOSER) for these BONDS or ANY CSA CURRENCY, and the HOARD of BONDS was OFFERED to SEVERAL of US VIA the COUTTS BANK in the UK (if I REMEMBER CORRECTLY), SOME 30-40 YEARS AGO.Measures approximately 8.25 x 9 inches
