SIEGE of MAFEKING, 10 SHILLINGS NOTE ISSUED by COLONEL ROBERT BADEN – POWELL (founder of the BOY SCOUTS) with MACHINE GUNNERS, DATED 1900

The Siege of Mafeking (Mahikeng) South Africa was the most famous British engagement in the 2nd Boer War. It took place over a period of 217 days, from October 1899 to May 1900 when the siege was lifted, and turned Robert Baden-Powell into a national hero. This was a victory for the British and a major defeat for the Boers.
