Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) Stamp Money Discs
The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) divided mainly between the right and the Catholics under the Nationalists as a way to stop the expansion of Bolshevism. On the left, labor, the students and intellectuals. The conflict involved large numbers of non-Spanish, including; Germany sending a Luftwaffe unit, the Italians giving 100,000 men etc. War gave rise to the disappearance from the economy of small change, so a plan was devised where the bank gave out free thick paper discs, about 1 1/4 inches with coat of arms on one side and blank on the other. To that one side you could attach a postage stamp of any value and use that as a money. Offered here are two different types.
