WEST CAICOS SISAL COMPANY STORE TOKEN TWO SHILLINGS PRE WWI. This company existed for about 20 years ( starting in 1890 and reaching it’s zenith in 1902 ) and the tokens were used by less than 150 people at any given time. Measures approx.33 mm. These have been noted in both copper ( mostly ) and silver color ( as is this one ) with no apparent reason ( other than possibly preservation ). Two shillings was considerable money and I believe the highest value in the Islands ( both for the Sisal works & Salt industry ). Store tokens were a form of enslavement as one was paid in them and could only use them in one place, for the prices set by the company store. ……………………………………………………………….
